Hey everybody - happy Friday!
I have not had the 600 mile service performed on my bike, yet. I am at 825 miles and plan on getting it serviced in about a week or so. Does anyone think I am damaging my bike by being over 600 miles? I'd like to ride it more before I get it to the shop, but if each mile from now until then is going to be harmful, I will just chill.
Thanks!

It's really easy to do yourself. The the reason they want you to service it so early is to get the assembly lube and break in material out. By break in material I am referring to the metallic inevitability that is clogging up your filter from the engine breaking in. I am a maintenance whore and always service on time if not early. I am a mechanic tho and have a well tooled shop at my house.
Order a filter and oil kit online. Have a can of brake clean and rag handy to clean the exhaust. I drain my bikes into a large cake pan. It is large enough for the oil and short enough to fit under the bike. Lube up the filter o ring before hand tightening it. And most importantly, do not over torque your drain plug.

I would change that ASAP, But I'm also a maintenance whore. With my bike I changed it out at 100km(60mi)and 500km(300mi) before bringing it in to the dealer ship for the 1000km(600mi) service. They over filled the oil, tightened the clutch cable so that it was snug(no play)and left way too much play on the throttle cable. That will be the last time someone besides me wrenches on my bike except for warranty claims. Make sure the O-ring comes off with the old filter and tighten the new one 2x past contact. As soon as the O-ring of the new filter contacts the engine I put a mark on the filter with liquid paper to make sure I give the oil filter a twist around twice.

This is timely as I just had my 600 mile service done this weekend. I was fine with everything but the valve check so I let the dealership handle the service. And yeah, the big thing is changing out the break-in oil so that you're good for another nearly 4,000 miles. I took mine in at 580 but I'm paranoid about that stuff.
