Hi All,
When I down shift at times, the gear indicator goes blank and does not show which gear # I am in. Has anyone else noticed this? I do not even have 400 miles on my bike yet... Should I be concerned?
Thanks,
gsxs750rider

That normally means it's not in gear. If you slowly release the clutch, does it show a gear?

That normally means it's not in gear. If you slowly release the clutch, does it show a gear? I've usually had to kick the shift lever to get it to show a gear, so maybe you are right, the bike may be in neutral. I hope that is all it is.

Mine only goes blank when between gears. I would suspect it's just not fully engaged at first, second or neutral? All of those positions should show up on your gear indicator.
Are you parked when playing with it or on the move? Does it happen while you are traveling? It might just be when you're parked and it doesn't fully engage the gear - hence why you need to "kick" it to get it to show which gear you're in.

Well guys I'm sad to say but learn from me, try to avoid this situation as much as possible! That blank gear indicator your getting is also known as a false neutral! I experienced it as well and maybe a little more than normal. I believe that is what resulted in my bike currently being in the shop without sixth gear! I was out for a little ride the other day cruising, in sixth gear obviously and out of nowhere my rpm's shot up and herd a nasty grinding noise!1-5 all felt fine but after something like that happening who know what kind of damage it caused! Just waiting on a call now to find out what's truly wrong.

At this point I'm not too worried about it, my mom just passed away yesterday so the bike is the last thing on my mind! But as soon as I get any information I will be sure to post! Ride safe everyone don't take a single day for granted!
