In my first post on this seat instal I mentioned that when I made the brackets for the Kawasaki Vulcan s 650 seat, to fit the GSX, I got it wrong. The seat was in the wrong position when I finished.
I started again and made completely new seat brackets, and I finished the instal this afternoon, then went and tested it out on a short 20 mile run.
What a difference. Compared to the original seat, this is like sitting in an armchair. The rear of your backside is supported and feels great when you accelerate.
It has made the bike a lot more comfortable FOR ME. Other points to consider. The seat height has increased, but this is not a bad thing because that means the leg distance to the footpegs has increased also and my legs are not so cramped. But, when sat on the bike,I am using the balls of my feet, touching the ground whereas before I was flat footed.
The OEM rear seat is now unusable, but I don't carry passengers anyway, so I will modify a seat cowl to fit.(The pictures show a temporary plastic/ fibre blanking plate)
Legality- I doubt the insurance people will accept it as a permitted modification so, i will have to undo all my work and restore to OEM to comply, which is a shame, because it really feels comfortable.I can only imagine it would probably be like when you change your saddle for one of the main aftermarket suppliers ( C***** etc.)
Note. If you live somewhere and can 'do this modification', legally, i.e your insurance and laws permit it bear in mind that the seat I used, was from a Kawasaki 650 Vulcan. BUT, take care when buying because Kawasaki sell THREE different size seats for this model. Check out Kawasaki Ergo Fit.
