Towards the front thought maybe a belt or something was rubbing underneath and behind the handlebars was only when it was idling

Do you have an aftermarket headlight? Was your fan on at the time? There may have been debris or a spider on your exhaust that burned as out warmed up.

I'd pull the fuel tank up and inspect everything. While the engine is cool, check the exhaust from head to tip. Make sure you don't have any hoses touching. How certain are you that it is burning rubber? plastic, rubber, oil all obviously have different smells, but I'm just trying anything to help.

I cant believe im not the only one! ive had my tank and exhaust off my bike a few times now(doing other things) and still cant find the smell on mine either! ive looked the harness. airbox everything. its like you I can definitely smell it around the engine and not the exhaust.

I wish I could help, but I've never melt this. You don't think it's debris on the header do you?
