So, it is with great sadness that I have to tell this story. I crashed my bike on father's day. I was going around a left hander, around 25-30 mph, when my rear tire caught a patch of gravel and kicked out on me. Because of the road I was on (State Park), there was no run off area, or guardrails, to prevent me from catching the edge of the road. Moss on the side didn't help, and I got tossed from the bike. The bike went off the road into some trees and rocks, with me following shortly behind.
Thankfully, I was wearing most of my gear, so my head, hands, upper body, and feet were spared from major injuries. Just bruised back and ribs, etc. However, my jeans didn't hold up as well, and I got two massive gouges on my knees, along with a broken patella. Right thumb also has a hairline fracture. Currently, I am immobilized, while on some decent painkillers. Next time, I'm going to remember to wear all the gear.
As far as the bike, well, she looked pretty beat up. I doubt it can be salvaged. I'll upload some pictures in a bit. From what I could see at the time, front forks bent, headlight and instrument cluster shattered, whole left side of the bike took a beating. All the plastic pieces are broken. Fuel tank is very dented. Handlebar pretty messed up. Couldn't really tell much more beyond that. The bike lowsided, hit the ditch, and caught a bunch of rocks and trees before settling where it did.
Thankfully, there were two other riders behind me. I didn't know them, but they stopped to help and called emergency services. So after a visit to the ER, and to the orthopedist, I'm back on my couch, recovering. Wear your gear folks. If I had my leather pants on, I probably would have avoided all injury. Ah well, you live and you learn. Cheers guys, and ride safe.
