I just got my 16 tooth front sprocket in the mail and I am excited to throw it on this weekend. It should give me a little more punch off the bottom. Still loving this bike!

It's pretty straight forward, but if you aren't comfortable I would advise looking for a vid on youtube. Look for an 05 06 gsxr 750 front sprocket change vid, as that is the engine that is in our bikes. Good luck and don't forget the red loctite.

Yep, 16T front sprocket was one of the first things I did - did you buy the one with the rubber insert like OEM (to dampen vibrations)? Much better around town but a little worse on the highway - nothing that really bothers me though.

That's the one I bought, with the rubber. Why would it be worse on highway?

I meant worse gas mileage, higher revs, etc. It's give and take with sprocket changes.

I'm not too worried about highway, I stick to back roads. 6th gear will still be fine. I usually do 1 down on the front on most bikes, just to get a little extra.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. This bike wasn't really made for highway cruising anyway.

I'm ordering a 16 tooth sprocket. Do I need to shorten my chain when i install it, or should there be enough adjustment with the stock length?

Just make sure your chain and rear sprocket aren't too worn otherwise the new front sprocket will wear faster than normal.

Thank you! It should be fine, only 6000kms on the bike but I will check it out.

I am loving the new smaller sprocket. It gets up into the meat of the power band much faster now. The bike really should come like this stock. Rolls at 80 mph at around 6500 rpms, no issues at all. I do have to be more careful with waiting for the tires to heat up now though. It will light the rear up in second gear easy now on cold tires and the TC turned off.

Yep, for sure. Definitely the way it should have come stock.

I installed mine last night too. It's a nice change, I find 3rd gear is really nice in the twisties. Less shifting, it just goes.
